Biography
Jealous Bone
Chicago, Illinois
Hailing from the Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland areas, Jealous Bone is a heavy-blues infused rock band that consists of Luca DiNicola on vocals, Fred DiSanto on drums, Damir Shegich on guitar, and Jim Barney on bass and keys. These four met each other in their younger days, but at the time were all playing in seperate bands. Over the years, they began to spend more time together and realized they had chemistry to write and make music as a group. Inspired by the likes of motown, heavy blues, and classic rock, Jealous Bone has idols in the ranks of Janis Joplin and Deep Purple. These inspirations shine through in their hooky bass lines and soaring melodies characterized by Luca’s warm, piercing timbre.
In the fall of 2016, Damir was introduced to veteran producer / engineer Chris Steinmetz at his Stonecutter Records recording studio. Their first collaboration together yielded some exciting results. Damir and Chris developed the next 13 songs the band wrote into a collection of powerful rock experiences. Jealous Bones’ 2020 project Reason To Stay shows a bevy of influences tastefully done in their own way - and with their own heavy sound. In light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic that’s affecting people across the globe, the album’s title “Reason To Stay” could not have come at a more opportune time in that now, we all have a reason to stay home.
While they love to rock out on a stage and perform, the creative aspects of making music are what drives Jealous Bone more so than the commercial ones. Fred has said in an interview that his “favorite part is when the band is playing together and the groove is feeling good. It’s very rewarding to be part of a creative team”. Working as a team is important to the band, but they also love to meet new people and play for diverse crowds. After all, music is what ultimately brings people together from all different walks of life. Lugging amps and heavy drums around is the less than glamorous side of being a musician, but the power of music and the people are what make it all worth it.
